Challenges

 

About 2 years ago EG realised that while their content writing team regularly takes part in SEO trainings, it is hard for everybody to remember all the rules that need to be followed every time new page is being edited and published in order to optimize the pages so they can rank higher in Google search.

Another problem they faced was the fact that the trainings were taking too much time that the editors could have spent on other, more significant to their profession tasks. Since the process of optimizing their content didn’t go as smoothly as they hoped for, EG also needed to spend extra resources on SEO experts checking their pages' content in order to optimize them properly.

 

Solution 

 

EG started using SiteAttention in 2017. First they tried the plugin in a smaller team of editors. In SiteAttention Dashboard the Digital Managers can choose how well their editors should optimize content with the help of the plugin. EG's Director of Marketing and Communication, decided to put the threshold of 90 out of 100 points in SiteAttention score. This has proven to be a great decision, as EG soon started noticing improvements in their ranks. 

Very fast EG decided to give access to SiteAttention plugin to all their editors. The Director of Marketing and Communication, who was directly responsible for implementing SiteAttention in EG pointed out that a great plus of the tool is the fact that it integrates into their Content Management System - Episerver. This made it easy for the editors to get used to the new tool and they did not need any long introduction sessions to learn how to use it. 

The content writers appreciated the ease with which they can use SiteAttention without having any previous knowledge of SEO. They could simply start writing their content in the Episerver page editor and the plugin would start giving them tips on what should be changed in order to optimize the page they are creating. They were happy with the intuitive interface and easy to understand tips that didn't require any knowledge about SEO.

The Director of Marketing and Communication also appreciated the SEO Dashboard that comes together with the SiteAttention plugin, in which he could control the implementation of the tool among the editors as well as follow EG's optimization progress. He would visit the Dashboard at least once a week to make sure that the project is going smoothly and there are no setbacks.

  • The average Google Rank position for EG went up by 77%

Through using SiteAttention, EG was able to improve the average ranking of all their pages by 77%. In their case that means that the overall ranking of all EG's pages went up by 20 positions.

 

  • 77% of EG's keywords are now ranking on the first page of Google

77% of all keywords that EG optimized their pages for with SiteAttention are now appearing on first pages of Google Search Results. Considering that 75% of people searching for something online will never scroll past the first page of Google, it is one of the most important factors in getting more organic traffic to EG's website.

 

  • Over 1/4 of all of EG's keywords are now ranking as number one on Google Search Results 

Since using SiteAttention, EG gained close to 70 keywords which were placed on the first position in Google search results.

 

  • 43% increase in organic traffic coming to EG's website

The above mentioned rise in EG's Google Search position also influenced the organic traffic coming to the company's website. The Director of Marketing and Communication also mentions that the the quality of the organic traffic is high and the organic visitors are very relevant audience for the company.

 

  • EG spends 25% less of what they used to on SEO

The company noticed that after buying SiteAttention their SEO spendings went down because they do not need to organize as many SEO trainings for their employees. They also don't need to spend extra resources on optimizing the content written by editors after they are done creating pages.

SiteAttention Dashboard - all you need to know

The SiteAttention Dashboard is designed to help Managers in getting more in depth with their company's SEO performance. In this article, we will walk you through all the parts of the Dashboard and give you tips on how to use each of its features to your company's advantage.

    

Signing in

When you start using the SiteAttention tool, you will get an email with the Dashboard activation link, through which you can activate your Dashboard account.

Afterwards, to log into your company's Dashboard, you can go to the Dashboard login page and log in with your email address and password.

 

Dashboard features and how to use them

 

Select Website and Select Domains

Under the Select Website part you can choose between different environments your company might be using. For example it could be: pre-production, integration or UAT environments.

In order to limit the information you get further down in the Dashboard to specific domains within your company, select them at the top of the Dashboard page:

Top Google Pages

Below, you can see how many of the keywords from your selected domains appear as top 1, top 2, top 3 and so on, in Google ranks. This is just a fast way of getting a general overview of how your pages are doing.

Google Rank Trend

In this part of your Dashboard, you can see how your Average Rank evolves over time. Average Rank indicates the average of how all your pages within the selected domains have been ranking. E.g. If I have 10 pages and 5 of them rank as top 1, and the other 5 rank as top 10, the Average Rank for them will account to 5th position.

Choose the date range that you are interested in seeing the results for by clicking on the fields above the Google Rank Trend timeline and choosing specific dates from the calendar pop-up:

On the right side of the timeline, you will also be able to see your pages' performance for the last 30 days. The top box will show you what's the highest Google rank position your pages occupy. Further, the middle box shows the average Google rank position for all your pages put together and the lower box gives you an idea of how well all your pages are optimized, by showing your average SiteAttention score.

 

Trending Ranks

 In the Trending Ranks part of the Dashboard you can see the pages that have recently changed their Google rank position to a better one. In the table you can see by how many points your position moved (Rank Trend) and find out what will be the estimated amount of traffic that this rise can bring to your page (Estimated Traffic Rise).

In the example above, you can see,that the page moved by 4 positions, so now it's visible as a 3rd page in Google search results and thanks to that, will get around 294 more visits per month.

 

Falling Ranks

The Falling Ranks table shows you which of your pages fell down in their Google ratings and by how many positions. It's important to keep track of the Falling Ranks table, as you can often add some changes to them to put them back on track. Use the SiteAttention tool to optimize these pages better. Often, refreshing some of the content on the page will also help. 

 

Pages

With the Pages section you can really go in depth with your results and not only see the detailed results for specific pages, but also learn more about the implementation of the SiteAttention tool, by seeing which of your editors have been already using the plugin to its fullest, and which of them need a little reminder.

Below, we will discuss some cases in which the Pages section can help you get more in-depth insights into your SEO.

 

  • Statistics for a specific page

 To get detailed statistics about a specific page, you can search for that page in the top left corner of the section. You can also search for the keyword you've optimized the page for in the Search Keyword.

When, after the search, the page appears underneath, you can find more detailed statistics for it, by clicking on the graph icon under the Statistics column by that page.

In the pop-up window, you can see how it's been performing in the Google ranks. To see its performance within a specific period of time, simply click on the date boxes and change the From and To Dates to your preferable choices. Remember that you cannot use the dates before the time your page was published with SiteAttention.

  • Finding the unoptimized pages

To find the pages that have been published with SiteAttention but haven't been sufficiently optimized yet, simply sort your pages by their SiteAttention Score (in the Dashboard seen as: Score) in ascending order. 

Since the SiteAttention score tells you (on a scale from 1 to 100) how well you've optimized your page, the pages that appear as the first ones after you sort them like described above, will be the ones that have been optimized the least from all your pages.

Advanced tip:

If you want to get more in depth with your results, you can also use the Filter Settings option in the top right corner of the Pages section.

Here, you can choose the threshold of the Site Attention scores you would like to see in the pages view. 

Afterwards, you can also match it with some other factors, such as e.g. Monthly Search (MS). 

E.g. You can choose to only see the pages with SiteAttention score between 1 and 70 (low optimization level) and high Monthly Searches (MS) for the keywords they were optimized for. This way, you will make sure you will only spend time on optimizing pages that will bring the most traffic to your website. When you're done setting up the filters, remember to press Apply Filter in the top right corner!

When you want to go back to seeing all your pages, click on the red Reset Filter button.

 

  • User implementation check

To see which of your editors uses SiteAttention regularly, click on the Filter Settings button. 

Find the User box and choose the editor whose scores you want to look at, then click on Apply Filter. Underneath you will get a list of the pages the editor you've chosen has published using SiteAttention. Click on the arrows by the Score factor to see the pages with the best and the worst SiteAttention score (the best and worst optimized by the editor). There should be a predominance of pages with scores above 70 points in SiteAttention score in order to say that the user is optimizing their pages effectively. 

 

  • Backlinks

In order to find out how many external links lead to a specific page, look at the last column (BL) in the Pages view.

  • See which of your pages score the highest in Google

The easiest way of seeing which of your pages score the highest (or the lowest) in Google search results is to click on the arrows by the column Google. This column indicates the Google search position for each of your pages.

  • Monthly Searches (MS)

Some of your articles might be optimizing for keywords that nobody searches for - they will then have zero in the MS (Monthly Searches) column. You can easily detect them in your SiteAttention Dashboard, by looking at the MS (Monthly Searches) column. 

 

Settings

To go to your Dashboard settings, choose Settings on the blue bar to the left of the Dashboard.

 

Warnings Threshold 

The warnings threshold helps you set up warning points both for your SiteAttention score and for your Google ranks. These warning points will be visible in the main part of your Dashboard, whenever a SiteAttention score or Google rank for one of the pages is below the set limit.

  • SiteAttention Score

To set up a new limit for your SiteAttention score, simply move the slider until you reach the number you are looking for. Then confirm your choice by clicking on the Save Score button. 

E.g. if you set the SiteAttention score warning for 80, you will get a warning sign by each of the pages that hasn't reached 80 in SiteAttention score.

We recommend you to set up your SiteAttention warning score for 80 or higher.

  • Google Rank

To clearly see whenever your Average Google Rank is below your expectations, set up a Google Rank Warning Threshold,by simply setting a number (a placement on Google) below which you do not want your company to fall.

By setting up a warning threshold for your Google Rank, you will add a red, horizontal line in your Google Rank Trend. The line will indicate where the warning level starts. If e.g. you set up the threshold to be 4, the red line will appear by Google Rank position number 4. This way you will be easily able to see when your pages have been meeting the desired Google rank placements and when their placement went down.

Region Tracking

With the region tracking feature, now you are able to specify what region, location and Google My Business name your domains and pages should be tracked for. 

When you don't use region tracking SA tool is only able to track how your pages perform with a country accuracy, as long as your domain ends with the same google region you want to track your pages for. E.g. if your domain ends with .co.uk, your pages will be tracked for their performance in the United Kingdom. However, if you want to be more specific in your tracking (and thus, making sure that you are tracking your progress among a specific audience) - you should start using the region tracking feature. 

 

There are three levels you can track your domains and pages for:

1. Google Region
  • you can choose to have all pages belonging to the same domain to be tracked for the same Google region or assign a Google region to a specific page - you get full control!

   

E.g. A domain that ends with .info does not show which country it is targeting. By assigning the Google region of google.se, the SiteAttention tool will know to track this domain specifically for Sweden.

2. Location ( by inserting specific city or zip code)
  • track your domain and page’s performance for a specific location (specific city or even zip code)

  

E.g. A shop located in Copenhagen, Denmark will care more for ranking high in Google search results performed by people living in Copenhagen, Denmark than in Tokyo, Japan, because their customer group is based in Copenhagen.

3. Google My Business name 
  • Certain Google search results will not return website URL, but list Google My Business names instead. In these situations, having your GMB name, we will be able to track if your company appeared in the GMB suggestions and how high up in the ranks it was listed.

The more of the levels mentioned above you assign to a domain the more specific your tracking will become.

Adding new users to the Dashboard

To add a new user to the Dashboard, go to the Users in the main Menu and under the User section type in the email address of the user you want to invite to the Dashboard. Then click the Send Invite button. We will send an account activation email to the email address you've provided. The user needs to follow the link included in the email within 24h.
