How many times have you thought you have just finished writing a great blog post, then try to promote it and nobody seems to like it as much as you do? With the amount of content being posted online everyday, your post can easily get lost among other great pieces of writing.
What can you do to make it stand out a little more than the competitors' articles? How about making it super easy to read for your readers? Here are a few tips on how to make that happen in less than 5 minutes and gain some new readers!
1. Interesting introduction
Writing a beginning that catches attention of your reader is extremely important. There are a few ways in which you can phrase your intro. The best techniques are to either make it funny or to relate to the problems your readers are facing.
In this article I've used the second technique and played on one of the common pains that the writer faces while writing new content. Try to find the pain in your niche and describe it.
You can also combine the two techniques and e.g. write a funny story that happened to you when you've encountered one of the pains in your niche. Who knows, you might also get some extra points from your readers for personalisation!
2. There's nothing better than visualisation
It's always easier to grasp an idea when it's supported with visualisation. Photos or infographics that sum up the most important points of your article are great eye-catchers. They will also lead the readers' attention towards the parts of article you want to make sure they will have a look at.
Talking about photos, remember to use the most eye-catching picture as the featured image. The better the picture used, the more people will notice it and click on your post, when it's shared on social media.
3. Use short sentences
Short sentences make your text so much easier to understand. The longer the sentence, the more complicated it becomes. The more complicated the text is, the harder it becomes for the reader to focus and the faster they will give up on reading your post till the end.
4. White space is your friend
Part your text into new paragraphs whenever it makes sense to do so. It will make your post look clearer and much easier to read.
Nobody likes reading big bulks of text. Especially not when trying to skim through an article, in order to find the information they are looking for. Paragraphs help separating new thoughts and therefore make it super easy for the reader to find the parts they are interested in.
5. Use headers and sub-headers
This is probably one of the most crucial tips of the 5 mentioned here. Headers and sub-headers not only help making your post look tidy. They also can guide your readers to the parts that they want to read about in no time. They also point out the most important points in your post, so often the reader can get the sense of your article by only reading the headers.
Think about your own behaviour online. When you're looking for specific information you will first look at the headers of the article. Then, most probably you will read text only below the parts that you find the most interesting.
